US-based Yakima Chief Hops introduces HyperBoost, a hop extract designed to enhance aroma and yield

US grower-owned global hop supplier Yakima Chief Hops (YCH) has recently introduced HyperBoost, a new hop extract designed to enhance craft beer aromas while boosting yield.

HyperBoost, previously known as YCH 701 during trials, is a concentrated hop oil extract produced via a supercritical CO2 extraction technique. This process ensures a high concentration of hop oils, ranging from 40% to 70%, preserving variety-specific aromas that carry through to the finished beer.

The product is primarily used in the fermenter as an active or post-fermentation dry hop addition, though it can also be utilised in the whirlpool.

Tessa Schilaty, YCH’s Technical Marketing Manager, said HyperBoost has been rigorously tested by 68 breweries across 21 countries. The feedback confirmed that YCH has achieved something exceptional.

HyperBoost is available in several hop varieties, including Citra, Simcoe, and Mosaic, and is packaged in 100g and 1kg aluminium bottles. The product’s branding is noted for its distinctive, eye-catching design.

YCH, headquartered in Washington State’s fertile Yakima Valley, has a long history of being at the forefront of hop technology. The introduction of HyperBoost reaffirms its commitment to providing innovative solutions for the brewing industry.

The innovation follows the successful launch of DynaBoost in April 2023. DynaBoost is another variety-specific hop extract designed for whirlpool use. DynaBoost distinguishes itself by its exceptional flowability at room temperature, eliminating the need for a hot water bath.

This feature allows brewers to replace T-90 pellets with DynaBoost in the whirlpool, potentially increasing hot-side yields by up to 5%. A single kilogramme of DynaBoost can replace ten kilogrammes of T-90 pellets, offering significant savings in freight costs and cooler space.
