Hong Kong’s Little Creatures microbrewery shuttered it’s doors for a final time at the end of December 2020.
Citing commercial pressures arising from the recent unrest in Hong Kong as well as the global coronavirus pandemic Lion Little World Beverages, Little Creatures’ parent company, took the decision to discontinue operations at the Kennedy Town location.
Monty James, Regional Sales Director for Lion Little World Beverages said of the closure “We’re really grateful for and proud of the last 4.5 years and the half million customers who came in for a beer over that time, but it felt like the right time to move on.”
The Kennedy Town brewery and restaurant was the first Little Creatures microbrewery location to be opened outside of Australia and has been followed by outlets in Singapore (2018), the UK (2018) and the USA (2019).
The popular 6,000 square foot industrially styled watering hole opened it’s doors in August 2016 and quickly established itself as a destination in the trendy Kennedy Town district on Hong Kong Island for both weekday after work beers and weekend chill sessions.
However, the anti-government protests that took place in Hong Kong from mid 2019 to mid 2020 as well as restrictions imposed to combat the ongoing pandemic have meant that the large central location was no longer a viable business proposition for the global brewer.
