District Brewers, the newest edition to Singapore’s expanding craft beer scene officially launched in the market over the past festive season.

Having brewed their first batches in July 2021, in the midst of Singapore’s period of pandemic induced ‘heightened restrictions’, they held a series of events at popular craft beer venues around the island in December.

Gypsy brewing at The Craft Alliance’s state of the art brewery in Tuas West, the home of craft brand Brewlander, District Brewers aim is to bridge the gap between international big brand beer and higher end craft by producing a more economical, yet flavourful range of brews.

This is the latest in a line of new craft brand launches Singapore has seen over the last couple of years with breweries such as Sunbird Brewing Co., Niang Brewery and Specific Gravity Beverage Co. all starting up during the pandemic.

District Brewers first three releases are named after well-known districts in Singapore and have been designed to be easy on the palate and true to style yet versatile enough to enjoy with the smorgasbord of cuisines found on the island nation.

The Tuas Factor Pilsner, with its Wolf head bearing safety goggles and earmuffs, represent the industrial population in Tuas who generally prefers to end their day over a refreshing lager or pilsner with their friends and colleagues.

Mandai Lager, a Vienna Lager, is specially brewed with a floral and fruit-forward hop, usually used with India Pale Ales (IPAs). Fronted by a cool looking primate, this crisp refreshing beer will appeal to anyone who adores the call of nature that abounds in the Mandai area of the island.

Finally, the Orchard Hop’in, a Session India Pale Ale, is fruity with bold aromas of mangoes, pineapples, grapefruits and stone fruits. It is the perfect brew to people-watch along Orchard Road while remaining true to the history of the many fruit plantations that adorned the area in a bygone era.

District Brewers’ ales can be found in all good craft beer stockists around the island. More locally themed beers have been promised in the coming months with nods to more of Singapore’s well-known neighbourhoods as well as collaborations with other local brewers.
