India’s Indri whiskey and Camikara rum to provide casks in barrel-aged beer programme

Piccadilly Distilleries, distillers of India’s popular single malt whisky Indri and Camikara rum, has announced its partnership with craft beer major Fort City Brewing for a barrel-aged beer programme. The partnership will see the launch of an exclusive series of beers aged in whiskey and rum casks.

The venture will realise a melding of tradition and modernity, producing beers that embody the distinct qualities of both brands, according to the release.

The two initial beers to be produced by the programme are Shahnama, in which Fort City’s Imperial Stout is aged in ex-Indri barrels, enhancing its oak and coffee notes; and J-Bomb, in which Jaggernaut, Fort City’s take on Belgian Dubbel, is aged for three months in ex-Camikara rum barrels to augment its dried fruit flavours, notably raisin.

According to the release Shahnama is a rich, complex stout with notes of oak, vanilla, coffee, and spices; and J-Bomb is anticipated to showcase flavours of toasted oak, caramel, plum, and dark fruits.
