Global glass packaging manufacturer O-I Glass (O-I) is looking for Asian breweries to help launch a new iconic series of beer bottles in the region.

At their online workshop during SEA Brew 2021 O-I showcased 4 new iconic Asia Inspired beer bottle designs; the Pagoda, River, Boat and the exciting new Snifter Drinktainer™.

Knowing that consumers are unconsciously drawn towards things that look & feel familiar the leading glass company felt it important to design packaging that takes clues from familiar things we see every day such as architecture, cultural identifiers or anything related to what we see in our natural surroundings.

The new bottles are now ready to be launched and O-I is looking for progressive breweries who would like to work with them to bring their brews to market in these innovative and eye catching designs.

The Pagoda

A generic term referring to a place for worship and reflection, the modern pagoda is an evolution of the ancient Indian stupa, a tomb-like structure in which sacred relics could be kept safe.

Commonly made of wood, brick or stone these architectural structure spread across the continent and now a common sight throughout Asia.

The elegant design of this bottle features three sections, just like a pagoda; a base, a body, and a top. The chic curvature of the neck reflecting the unique lines of the pagoda roof.

The River

Rivers play an integral role in societies across the region, from the movement of food and goods to the simple enjoyment of the cool running waters. Water has also been shown to promote wellness and relaxation.

Inspired by the natural flowing lines of a river this bottle design encourages consumers to run their finger over the contour of the bottle and interact with the packaging in a natural way.

The Boat

Just as rivers and waterways are common throughout the region, so are the boats that ply them. Floating markets are a traditional way of trading goods in many cultures, existing as ‘melting pots’ which have experienced the fusion of communities and cultures for centuries.

The traditional Vietnamese boat, also called Thuyen, has a very iconic shape. The hull is slender and gracefully tapered toward both ends. The bow in particular rises in a long curve with a very long overhanging cutwater reaching out over the sea.

The beautiful curve of the hull was used as inspiration for the the neck of this bottle, it’s key design feature. The wider neck also helps to keep the beer colder for longer.

The Drinktainer

The Snifter Drinktainer™ is the perfect ‘to go’ individual drink packaging solution. It carries the largest commercially available closure for pressurized content (the 42mm Rip Cap) and is the closest solution able to replicate a unique draft experience.

The wide neck of the Snifter Drinktainer™ has been designed to deliver aroma, which plays a vital role in a beer’s flavor profile, while the rounded bottom fits perfectly in your hand for a pleasurable drinking experience.

Of these revolutionary new designs Bayard Sinnema, O-I Glass Commercial Director (Asia), remarked “Some may say good beer is good beer and it doesn’t matter from which vessel you actually drink it. But we personally think it does matter – and we know lots of beer lovers care about how they experience their favorite beverages.”

“At O-I Glass, we believe that glass packaging is an integral part of a brand that tells a story the moment a shopper sees it on the shelf. These new designs are based on market research and meet the premium packaging expectations consumers are looking for, both in the taproom and at home.”

O-I Glass are now looking for partners to help them bring these designs to market this year. Launch partners will be able to showcase their branded bottles on the O-I stand at the 2022 SEA Brew in Bangkok this October.
