The owners of Bali’s Black Sand Brewery in North Kuta, on the outskirts of sprawling Denpasar, have launched the tropical island’s newest brewing project, Island Brewing.

The brand new 900 sq/m purpose built production facility was designed by Bali based 2M Design Lab, who also designed the Black Sand venue in Canggu. Built from scratch during 2021, the brewery released its first brews earlier this month.

The brainchild of Black Sand founder and long time Bali resident Mattia Di Bitonto, Island Brewing hopes to encourage innovation and partnerships with other local food and beverage businesses and help contribute to the emerging Indonesian beer movement.

Speaking on a video posted to their website Di Bitonto explains “We didn’t just want to make a beer brand, we wanted to influence people to have better moments, better time”

He continues “I saw the impact that Black Sand had on the people around me and the community, it really showed me the importance of beer and the influence it had on people”

Brewing operations at the Island Brewing production facility is fronted by Kiwi Duane Morton, formerly of Vietnam’s Heart of Darkness brewery.
