New York International Beer Competition awards gold to the Indian brewer for its Saffron Lager

Indian craft beer pioneer Kati Patang received global recognition at the recent New York International Beer Competition (NYIBC) after winning the gold medal for its Saffron Lager, and being named “India Brewery of the Year”.

The dual awards mark a significant milestone for the country’s burgeoning craft beer industry on the international stage. The NYIBC is the only international beer competition judged exclusively by trade buyers using a rigorous blind-tasting process.

This year’s contest attracted over 700 submissions from more than 15 countries across 30 categories. The judging panel, comprising cicerones, sommeliers, beer bar owners, retail buyers, distributors, and importers, ensure that every entry is assessed solely on quality and craftsmanship.

Kati Patang’s Saffron Lager is a light-bodied golden beer that stands out by incorporating authentic Kashmiri saffron into its brew. The result is a clean, crisp lager with subtle aromatic notes and a lingering finish, which elevates the overall flavour profile.

The brewery adopts an innovative approach of blending modern creativity with traditional brewing methods, reinforcing the brand’s commitment to quality and distinctiveness.

The recognition as “India Brewery of the Year” reinforces Kati Patang’s as one of the leaders in the country’s rapidly developing craft beer movement. Moreover, international accolades can enhance the credibility of India’s craft beer sector in general, and encourage local brewers to push creative boundaries and maintain high standards.
