The event aims to provide a platform for local microbrewers to reach a national audience

Simba, one of India’s leading craft beer brands, has officially launched “Brew Off”, a brewery competition aimed at celebrating the art of brewing and providing microbreweries with a larger platform to showcase their creations.

The competition, scheduled for late August 2024, will offer a cash prize of INR300,000 (USD3,593) and the opportunity for the winning brewery to develop a limited edition brew in collaboration with Simba. Brew Off is envisioned as becoming an annual event.

The event will take place at the Woodside Inn in Mumbai, and subsequently, the winning brew will be distributed across Goa, according to the announcement.

The competition is open to microbreweries from across India, with each participant allowed to enter up to two of their beers. Maharashtra-based breweries, however, are preferred due to excise permits and logistical considerations, but those from other states are also encouraged to join.

Registration for Brew Off will commence at the end of June 2024. Participating breweries must fill out a registration form detailing their beer style, hops, alcohol by volume (ABV), and tasting notes for their entries.

The final list of competitors will be revealed at the end of July, with the event set to culminate in a finale in late August.

Simba co-founder and COO Ishwaraj Singh Bhatia said Brew Off shows the firm’s commitment to enriching the brewing community, and fostering a culture of collaboration and excellence that defines Simba’s dedication to craft.

Founded in 2016, Simba has grown its distribution to over 17 states, establishing itself as India’s first family-run craft brewery. Simba is headquartered in Durg in Chhattisgarh state, where it operates its flagship brewery.
