Four Hong Kong breweries have come together to celebrate the launch of the new Yakima Chief “Talus™” hop with the territory’s first wet hopped brew.

Hong Kong Brewers Operation Hop Drop Talus

Brewers from 4 Hong Kong breweries collaborated on the project

Dubbed ‘Operation Hop Drop’, brewers from Carbon Brews, Double Haven Brewing, Heroes Beer Co. & Young Master Ales gathered at the Carbon Brews brewhouse in Fo Tan earlier this month to collaborate on a Talus™ Wet Hop IPA.

The brew was to mark the global launch of the new Yakima Chief hop variety.

200 kg of Talus™️ whole cone fresh hops were air freighted from Yakima Valley, USA, to Hong Kong within 2 days of harvesting in order to retain their freshness for the brewday.

The hops were picked fresh at the farm in Yakima, loaded onto a plane the same day and flown directly to Hong Kong where they were added to an already awaiting mash.

Following a similar project undertaken with brewers in Korea last year Yakima Chief Hops Vice President of Sales (Asia) Percy Lam commented “We have set an unprecedented shipping arrangement in the history of the Hong Kong brewing Industry. The fresh hops were shipped from the farm in Yakima USA directly to the brewery in HK this year, using our newly released hop Talus (formerly called HBC 692) within 48 hours”

The beer will be launched this evening (Thursday 22nd Oct) at a party at Second Draft, Tung Lo Wan Road.
