The organisers have announced that this year’s 35th Qingdao International Beer Festival will take place from 18 July to 16 August, and feature more than 2,300 beers
The Qingdao Municipal People’s Government, organisers of the 35th Qingdao International Beer Festival, have announced that the event will run from 18 July to 16 August in Qingdao. The organisers have also taken the step of extending the festival from its previous 24-day format to a full month to meet anticipated summer holiday demand.
The event will be branded under the theme “Qingdao Cheers with the World,” and this year’s festival will span three principal venues: the West Coast site, the Laoshan site and Qingdao’s Old Town. Parallel events will also take place in other districts and counties. The aims of the event are to stimulate consumer spending and heighten its international profile; enrich the visitor experience and deepen the city’s cultural connections; and bolster Qingdao’s reputation as ‘the Beer Capital of China’.
At the West Coast venue, set within Golden Beach Beer City, visitors can enjoy seven distinctive zones: a star-studded avenue, beer tents, plaza games, leisure dining, fashion trends, a beer culture exhibition and a central performance stage.
The Laoshan venue, located at Century Square Beer City, will present a unique fusion of Chinese tradition and European flair through five themed zones, under the concept of ‘One City, Two Scenic Highlights’.
Meanwhile, the Qingdao Old Town venue, centred on the historic Shangjieli and Dabaodao districts, will stage 20 themed activities encompassing food, sightseeing, shopping and entertainment.
As one of the world’s largest beer festivals, this year’s event will showcase a record-breaking selection of over 2,300 beers, representing more than 400 brands from over 40 countries and regions, ranging from Tsingtao’s local brews to German, Dutch, Danish, Portuguese, and craft imports, among others. International gourmet cuisine will also be on offer. Last year’s edition drew a record-breaking 6.36 million visitors who consumed over 2,800 metric tons of beer and attended hundreds of performances across its 24-day schedule.
Signature highlights this year include the “Golden Flower Award” Craft Beer Competition, the King of Beer Contest, the Goddess of Joy competition and the Qingdao Fashion Sports Festival. The schedule also features nearly 2,000 performances—from anime carnivals, street shows, art parades and electronic music festivals, to magic acts, robot processions and traditional Chinese operas—creating an immersive, city-wide festive atmosphere.
