The Danish brewing giant opens a new brewery in southern China to help service its Asian expansion plans

Global brewer, Carlsberg Group, has inaugurated its 27th brewery in China. The new, state-of-the-art facility, located in Foshan Sanshui, Guangdong province, features a robust production capability, with an annual capacity of 5 million hectoliters, according to the brewer’s announcement.

It also houses two bottling lines that can produce 48,000 bottles per hour, a canning line with a 90,000 cans per hour capacity, and a keg line capable of handling 90 barrels per hour.

The new China facility will produce popular brands like Wusu, 1664 Blanc, Carlsberg, and Tuborg, playing a vital role in the expansion of Carlsberg’s premium offerings in the region, including in India and Vietnam.

Jacob Aarup-Andersen, Carlsberg Group CEO, highlighted the new brewery’s role in achieving the company’s sustainability targets, including the integration of solar panels and a rainwater collection system.

The brewery also marks several firsts for Carlsberg, including the introduction of 100% electric forklifts, and the establishment of the company’s first development centre outside Europe, which will focus on product innovation and trend analysis.

CK Lee, President of Carlsberg China, said the recent opening of the Foshan Brewery represents more than just an expansion; it marks the start of a new 30-year commitment to China.

Carlsberg’s business in China began more than 150 years ago, when founder, J.C. Jacobsen shipped the first boxes of Carlsberg beer to the country, making it one of the company’s first international export markets.
