US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen rounds off Beijing visit with a pint of local IPA crafted by Jing-A Brewing

US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen and US Ambassador to China Nicholas Burns enjoyed a craft beer at the Jing-A Brewing Company brewery in Beijing, China, on the last evening of the Treasury Secretary’s official visit to China earlier this month.

A treasury department official said Yellen chose the Flying Fist IPA, made with American hops, as a gesture to promote American exports, noting that China is the largest export market for American agriculture. Yellen described the robust 6.5% brew as “excellent”.

The award-winning ale is dry-hopped with Citra and Simcoe for a burst of tropical fruit aromas. It has a fresh pine and zesty citrus, medium bitterness, and a crisp finish, according to the brewer’s description.

Yellen’s eating and drinking activities in the Middle Kingdom have attracted keen interest among the American and Chinese public following her enjoyment of a potentially hallucinogenic mushroom dish on her last visit to China, and her deft chopstick skills.

Jing-A Brewery was founded in Beijing in 2012 by long-time friends Kris Li, originally from Toronto, Canada; and Alex Acker, originally from Connecticut, USA. The brewery now has eight taprooms across the Chinese capital, according to its website.
