Asia’s First Brewery at Sea to launch later this year

Imagine enjoying a cold handcrafted German craft beer while at sea on China’s largest ever cruise ship. Not a beer loaded onto the ship while replenishing stocks at dock; but rather, one brewed right there on the ship.

This will soon be possible when Asia’s first brewery at sea, the 1508 Brewery, starts operation later this year onboard the Adora Magic City, China’s first large cruise ship built entirely domestically. Located on Deck 5, the 1508 Brewery will serve three onboard bars: Munich Square, Bavarian Lounge, and Ocean View Bar, offering guests a wide selection of unique and freshly brewed craft beers.

The beers are designed by experienced German brewers, including a signature blend inspired by spices from the Silk Road. As with all German beers they will adhere to the Reinheitsgebot, the Bavarian Beer Purity Law of 1516, using only water, barley, and hops in its brewing process. The brewery’s name pays tribute to the ship’s construction and China’s brewing history.

The Adora Magic City is the world’s first domestically made large cruise vessel with 5G capabilities. The cruise ship boasts an impressive length of 323.6 meters and a gross tonnage of 135,500 tonnes, offering accommodation for up to 5,246 passengers. The ship is currently under construction by Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Corporation and is expected to set sail in late 2023.
