This statement is intended as a notification of a change in “best-by” period for all hop pellet products manufactured by BarthHaas GmbH & Co. KG and John I. Haas, Inc.

A list of all affected products is provided below.

     • Type 90 Hop Pellets
• Type 45 Hop Pellets
• LupoMax®
• Isomerized Hop Pellets
• BBC Pure Hop Pellets

Whereas the previous “best-by” period for hop pellet products produced by BarthHaas GmbH & Co. KG and John I. Haas was three (3) years, we now maintain that hop pellet products can be used within five (5) years of the processing date.

This 5 year best-by date applies to previously manufactured hop pellets as well as pellets from future crop years.

Modern hop processing and packaging technology allow for the quality of hop pellet products to be maintained for long durations when properly stored. This has now been confirmed through a long-term study of hop varieties from all major global growing regions. However, even under ideal storage conditions, natural chemical changes in hops will occur over time during storage. This does not significantly alter the performance of the hops in brewing, does not affect the food safety of the pellets, and the hops remain generally recognized as safe (GRAS).
