SEA Brew 2020 – Charlie Papazian, Rohit Dugar & Youichi Kiuchi

Fermentis

Having had to move to a virtual platform for our 2020 edition, SEA Brew 2020 began with a dialogue with some industry luminaries; Charlie Papazian (past President of the Brewers Association, USA), Youichi Kiuchi (Hitachino Nest Beer, JPN) & Rohit Dugar (Young Master Brewery, HKG).

The discussion began with Charlie elaborating on the early days of craft beer in the USA, back in the 70’s & 80’s, when craft brewers were struggling to develop their brands and distribution channels and moved on to talk about his work with the Brewers Association.

Youichi and Rohit then go on to share their views on market development in Japan and Hong Kong.

Some of the topics covered in the conversation are:

  • The need for and struggles with collaboration in the industry (4 mins)
  • The importance of local provenance (15 mins)
  • The impact of Beer Tourism (17 mins/56 mins)
  • The positives and negatives of Kveik yeast (47 mins)
