ABN Talks: Shiro Yamada, Far Yeast Brewing Company (JPN)

Fermentis

Host Oliver Woods speaks with Shiro Yamada, founder of The Far Yeast Brewing Company (KAGUA & Far Yeast), one of Japan’s most successful craft breweries.

They discuss Shiro’s journey building his KAGUA & Far Yeast brands over the past decade, the evolving beer market both in Japan and regionally, and his strategies for the future in light of the disruption imposed by COVID-19.

The Far Yeast Brewing Company was founded in 2011 and brewed their early beers in Belgium before moving to their own facility in 2017 at their Genryu Brewery (The Headwaters Brewery) in Yamanashi Prefecture outside Tokyo.

With the recent addition of mainland China they are now selling their two beer brands, Far Yeast and KAGUA, in 23 countries worldwide as well as at home in Japan.
