The US brewery, one of the early pioneers of the US craft beer movement, has opened its first Asian taphouse in the city, with plans to expand across the region
Chicago-based craft beer icon Goose Island has opened its first taproom in Asia, selecting Hong Kong’s Central district as the launchpad for its regional expansion.
The new venue on Lyndhurst Terrace in Central district, which was previously the home of a BrewDog taphouse, brings over a dozen of the brewery’s signature beers to local patrons, alongside a menu of classic American pub fare.
The brand, widely credited with pioneering the US craft beer movement, is offering its acclaimed Goose IPA — a six-time winner at the Great American Beer Festival — as well as Thirsty Goose lager, which recently clinched gold at the 2024 World Beer Awards China. Monthly specials will rotate through the tap list, introducing limited-edition and seasonal brews.
For drinkers looking to explore the full range of the brewer’s offerings, the Brewmaster’s Choice Flight features twelve 150ml pours for HK$298 (US$38), allowing guests to sample the diversity of Goose Island’s brews in one sitting.
Complementing the beer is a lineup of hearty dishes, including fish and chips made with Goose 312 wheat ale, stacked burgers, and loaded nachos topped with a Goose IPA-infused cheese sauce — each item crafted to pair with the brewery’s beers.
Founded in 1988, Goose Island was named after a manmade island on the Chicago River, once a resting stop for migrating geese. Its move into Hong Kong underscores a broader strategy to bring premium American craft beer to Asia’s growing base of discerning drinkers.
The Goose Island Taproom operates daily from noon until midnight, with extended hours to 2 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. The location, Shop 1, G/F, 8 Lyndhurst Terrace, Central, positions the taproom at the heart of Hong Kong’s nightlife scene.
