Hong Kong’s Yardley Brothers Craft Brewery is making a name for itself, not just on its home turf, but throughout Asia.
The Kwai Chung based brewery has recently earned a string of awards from competitions across the region including the International Beer Cup, the Asia Beer Championship and the Hong Kong International Wine and Spirits Competition.
Yardley Brothers showcased its best brews at the Cathay Pacific Hong Kong International Wine and Spirits Competition, claiming the top prize for Best Specialty with their In Flanders Fields: Mulberry Edition. This single-barrel Flanders Red, aged for 33 months in Gamay Noir barrels and then further conditioned on mulberries, also secured a Gold Medal in the barrel-aged category with an outstanding 98 points.
The brewery’s success didn’t end there. Sour City, a Passion Fruit and Guava Sour, Modern History, a complex Vin Jaune Barrel Aged Mixed-Fermentation Sour, and Hong Kong Bastard IPA all achieved Gold Medals with scores exceeding 95 points. Even their classic Lager Lager Lager Helles Lager impressed the judges, taking home another Gold.
Founder Luke Yardley commented on this success, stating, “This breadth of recognition across our range is a truly exciting acknowledgment of the work we are doing as we continue to expand. All of our core beers have won major awards, and we are proud of the recognition of our team’s work.”
Triumph at the Asia Beer Championship
Yardley Brothers also made a strong showing at this year’s Asia Beer Championship. Their Thai Chilli Getaway, originally brewed as a seasonal collaboration with Sandport Brewing and Taopiphop Ale Project and now part of their regular range, spiced beer snagged the Gold medal in the Spice, Herb or Vegetable Beer category.
Modern History received a notable Chairman’s Selection, while both Machine Men Pale Ale and Good Morning Vietnam, a refreshing cucumber and lime sour brewed in collaboration with Vietnam’s Seven Bridges Brewing Company, were awarded Bronze medals.
The annual Asia Beer Championship showcases the thriving craft beer scene in Asia. With its meticulous blind tasting format judged by an international panel of beer experts, the competition sets a high bar for quality and innovation. Yardley Brothers’ achievements here emphasize their dedication to pushing the boundaries of craft beer in the region.
Yardley Brothers’ success this year extends further afield with Sour City winning Bronze in the Sour Beer category at the International Beer Cup, hosted by Japan’s Craft Beer Association.
Looking ahead
Luke Yardley acknowledges these awards reflect his team’s commitment to brewing exceptional beers across a wide spectrum of styles. He explains, “we are proud of the recognition of our team’s work in the ongoing development of our region-leading sour and barrel-aging programmes. We continue to go from strength to strength, as we have fully settled into our new brewery and are exporting more widely regionally as well as looking at further growth.”
With a new brewery and expanded distribution, Yardley Brothers is well-positioned to become a leading player in the Asian craft beer landscape and beyond. With their commitment to quality, innovation, and bold flavors, it’s clear that this is the next stage of a very exciting journey.
