17th September 2024
Fermentis

Welcome to Brew King Philippines, a freestyle beer competition for Filipino commercial brewers!

We asked the brewers to brew something Fresh, Floral & Fruity – showcasing their creativity and SafLager S-189 lager yeast (expect clean and crisp characters from the fermentation) from our competition partners Fermentis and Palisade Cryo-Hops (expect apricot, grassy and clean floral flavours/aromas) from Yakima Chief Hops. How have they done?

Here’s today’s taplist:

10. Pale Lager, ABV: 6.0%
The first sip reveals a multifaceted flavor profile. Upfront, there’s a burst of apricot that adds a juicy sweetness, balanced by grassy notes that bring a subtle bitterness. As it develops on the palate, clean floral characteristics come through, reminiscent of a wildflower meadow. Hints of grapefruit and stone fruit interweave, providing a delightful citrus and fruit balance. Underlying woody and pine flavors provide an earthy base, while the resinous quality lingers, contributing to a long, satisfying finish.
Mouthfeel: This beer has a smooth, medium-bodied mouthfeel with a creamy texture that coats the palate. Its moderate carbonation lifts the flavors, making the resinous and piney notes more pronounced. The finish is slightly dry with a lingering bitterness, balanced by the sweetness of the malty base.

11. Cold IPA, ABV: 5.4%
Made with water sourced from an ancient hidden pure spring water source located somewhere in North Luzon, barley grains hand-picked by maidens of a centuries-old German cult, flaked rice from Ghengis Khan’s own personal stash, hops grown in dirt that was sowed by Charlie Palpazian and his majestic steed himself and yeast grown in space and dosed with cosmic rays.
This Cold IPA will give you slight sweet tropical notes on the nose, before a crisp easy to drink beer with subtle citrus and floral flavours.
