The entries have been judged and the results are in!

The annual hunt for Asia’s best brews saw a record entry this year of over 560 beers and ciders from across the region. Judged by a panel of 42 experienced judges and professional brewers in early October the results will be presented on Friday 28th October from 4pm during the last session of this year’s SEA Brew brewers conference and trade fair.

The results will be announced at the region’s largest gathering of brewers, beer distributors and industry suppliers.

The Asia Beer Championship, now in its 5th year, is an awards programme run by the Asia Brewers Network to supporting the rapidly developing beer culture throughout Asia. The annual competition provides a trusted quality benchmark for consumers as well as independent feedback to the regions’ brewers and the unanimous feedback from this year’s judges is the quality bar has been raised once again!

This year’s competition saw beers and ciders from some of Asia’s largest to some of its smallest breweries compete across 32 categories (28 beer and 4 cider) for the ultimate accolade of Champion Beer of Asia.

The competition only awards one Gold, Silver and Bronze medal in each style class each year to the top performing beers. Those which are deemed excellent examples of style, but miss out on a medal stand the chance to be awarded a Chairman’s Selection at the discretion of the judges.

The competition also recognizes Champion Beers of Asia across several of the larger categories including Wheat Beer, Lagers, Pilsners, Pale Ales, IPA’s and Ciders. The breweries with the best results also have the chance to be named the Champion Brewery of Asia in their particular size category (Small 1-9HL, Medium 10-29HL or Large 30HL+).

2022 has also seen the introduction of a new award class, the Country Champion, awarding the best brewery from each country where 5 or more breweries had entered the competition.

Expect some of the region’s biggest names in brewing to once again be taking home awards, but as the championship has grown, quality has improved and competition has intensified – expect some unexpected results this year!

The 2022 Asia Beer Championship Awards Presentation will be held on 28th October at the Berkeley Hotel Pratunam (Bangkok) from 4pm. The full results will be available on the championship’s website after the presentation.

Expect brewers to be celebrating their wins through the night in the Thai capital’s taprooms and bars, and you may even be able to try a few winning brews the following day at the Thailand Brew Fest at The Link, Asoke-Makkassan.
